I’m at chapter 8 of tobira and for some reason I’m just not feeling the yomimono here.. I’ve spent a couple days and I just don’t really click with it like every time I’m gonna read it I feel like a chore. I feel like the previous chapters were a bit easier and this one feels really hard and it probably is with the usage of the vocabulary. Should I just skip and go on to the kaiwabun and the rest of the book or just stay here until I get it. If I ever do…?

To state the obvious, if you’re self-studying (as opposed to taking a class where you’re going to be tested on this material), you’re free to do whatever you want and are under no obligation to study this passage (or anything, for that matter).
That said, clearly it’s in the textbook because the authors felt it was important to learn and understand. While of course it won’t be the end of the world if you just move on without understanding it, skipping things just because they seem difficult, challenging, and/or outside of your comfort zone at first probably isn’t the greatest habit to get into if your goal is to eventually reach a high level of proficiency in the language.
