Never received my number

Hello. I moved to Japan in September and registered my residence in my place of residence in September. I was supposed to have received a certificate in the mail called “individual number notice” or something, which would have allowed me to apply for a my number card. But it never came in the mail. Any advice? Thanks

  1. did you apply for my number card ? sometimes it takes months to deliver. if not you need to go to city hall and apply.

  2. Go to your ward/city hall.

Also contact your post office if you’re not getting your other mail either, they can hold/reject mail if they don’t know you’ve moved into their district.

  3. If you need something immediately, I will just say getting a certificate of residence (住民票) with your unique number (個人番号 I think) printed should satisfy companies in the mean time.

  4. From what I heard I thought they were not mailing out notification cards for a while now. If you got yourself a copy of your juminhyo your mynumber number should be on it. Just ask city office for the forms (which will have a personal application number) if you want a mynumber card.

edit: I see they still mail out notices but it’s the paper cards that are no longer included.

  5. IIRC they actually stopped sending new individual “notices” a long time ago. The way you get your individual number / My Number card is by going directly to your City Hall and applying there. They will make you fill a simple form and take your picture, after that they will send you a pick up notice by mail (takes three to four weeks), then you will need to make a reservation as instructed in that notice to go pick up your card, and done.
