COE Purpose of Entry?

So I’ve been offered a place as an intern for 6 (maybe more months) at an architectural and project management firm in Japan, and I’m now looking through the COE application. I’ve graduated from my architecture part 1 course in the UK so I don’t think I can say student or designated activities, and from what I understand the intern / technical intern boxes refer to Government internship. So do I check the “highly skilled professional” (seems an exaggeration) and if so which one or would it be the trainee box?
Thanks and apologies if you see a few more questions from me…

  2. At the same time, does the length of stay have to be definite? As I had another offer for a 3 month internship which I was considering completing afterwards. Can I write 6-9 months or should I leave it at 7 or something?

  3. Your company will probably ask you to fill out a form asking for basic information that they’ll use on the COE. You won’t need to do anything for the COE part. Once they’ve filled it out they’ll send it to Japanese Immigration to get it approved – at which point they may email you letting you know it’s in processing. After processing, assuming approval, your company will mail (yes snail mail) the COE to you in your home country (I’m guessing the UK) and you take that COE + all the supplementary documentation you’ve prepared beforehand to the local Japanese consulate to get a visa.
