Is Japanese dating culture really like it is in Japanese media?

I know anime and stuff is pretty mich the worst source for literally anything so I hope I don’t sound bigoted. I was just wondering why every romance in anime and mange is portrayed as: go on dates, ask to be girlfriend, then kiss and more.

Where I live I’d say most people have sex by the third or fourth date and discuss being exclusive after that. So how is dating culture in Japan. Is it similar to mine, or more like it is in anime?

  1. Its very similar to anime. Infact, like most aspects of Japanese culture almost identical.

  2. >Go on dates, ask to be girlfriend, then kiss and more.

Don’t add the anime part and congratulations, you just described the most common dating path anywhere in the world. That’s just how most of the people do it, no?

  3. when i was dating my wife, she simply put her slippers in my flat and was basicly moved in after the 4th date.

  4. Check out dating reality shows such as Terrace House. It gives a closer image to how it tends to work. You will see some cultural differences but it is not going to be like anime. The differences from Terrace house and real life are that some scenes are likely scripted, people all live together and most people in real life aren’t influences trying to sell their name and brand on TV.

People will mock you for this question since a lot of weaboos tend to have presumptions that things in Japan are like anime and it is quite often ignorant and cringy. They often make fools out of themselves and it is bringing a bad name to us foreigners who live in Japan.
