PR freelancer credit card advice

As it says, I have PR and work freelance (very few hours) in Japan but I have a full-time remote job that I get an American salary from. I have several family credit cards here but I’d like to apply to one on my own. Other than Rakuten (already have that as a family card) are there any others that are easy to pass the application requirements? I’m also wondering if I should write “housewife” since my yen salary is so miniscule…advice appreciated.

  1. If you have PR with residence in Japan, you are also paying global income tax in Japan, so you should have a record of paying taxes here that prove your salary even if sourced in the US. That should be sufficient for credit card applications, no? (No idea how that’ll look like with double taxation treaty, but you should still have a paper trail in Japan that could serve as proof)

There are a bazillion cards to choose from: https://kakaku.com/card/

I just use the debit card linked to my freelance bank account most of the time, and have the Saison AMEX business card without yearly fee and low credit.

  2. many people don’t know but go to any コメリ and apply for コメリカード. the staff will help you. if it’s in daytime they’ll usually inform you the results within 20 mins. the thing is it’s a JCB card. I don’t know about putting housewife but my friend got it when he put パート/アルバイト

lifecard. you’ll have to apply online but there’s a higher chance you’ll get it. it’s available in Visa JCB master

mercari card メルカード. there’s no screening you’ll get the card in post after you setup mercari pay with 本人確認. it begins with very very low credit limit like 1万円 for most people but more you use it more the limit increase. I’m now at 45 万. you can change the limit in the app no screening for limit change. this is a JCB card.

  3. When I applied for credit cards they asked for my occupation, employer name and address, and annual income but I don’t think they actually verified anything because no one ever contacted my company to verify employment or income. I also had to give my bank account information for payments.
