I think I’ve figured out Rakuten for people with long names

TLDR: With a long name, you can use all Rakuten services with each other as long as you exclude Card. It’s impossible to use Card for Mobile, Securities, etc.

This post is meant for people with long names using the main Rakuten services, like Securities (証券), Card, Ichiba, Mobile, Point, and Bank. I believe I finally figured out what’s possible by setting up the new NISA reservation.

Let’s say that:

Your first name is: Steve Tim Lebron Michael

Your last name is: Jobs

You will have 3 accounts if you use the services above:
– Securities
– Bank
– Rakuten (Card, Ichiba, Mobile, etc.)

Securities and Bank will take your full name with no issues. In fact, it’s probably impossible not to.

Card, on the other hand, due to a system limitation or some bullshit, cannot. For most people you will probably have to shorten the name on your credit card before you can receive the card itself. Here lies the problem. *The name on your credit card is the official name for your account.* In order to change the name, you have to remake your card, but it is literally impossible if your name is as long as *Steve Tim Lebron Michael James*. Changing the name of your Rakuten account doesn’t change the name for your Card account.

This means that, you can use all the services with each other if you use your official name because you can easily make them match. For example, you can set up auto tsumitate for the 50,000 yen limit with Point, Cash, and Securities. However the other 50,000 yen is impossible with Card if the names don’t match.

If I missed something or I’m wrong somewhere please let me know in the comments.

I’m to understand that if you blunder around Rakuten CCs e-Navi website, you can request for a name change form to be mailed to you – it’s a paper form, and there is no character count limit on it.

When you get it, fill it out with your proper name, and mail it back. They’ll need to cancel and reissue you new cards, and your name will be correct.

While my name isn’t as long as your 24 character (including spaces) example, they did accept my 4 word, 16 character (including spaces) first name.
