Hello, i set my language in LoL to Japanese just for fun and discovered that some names would be written with an symbol that looks like = where i would expect a normal line for a long vowel. (チョ＝ガス)
I would have accepted it as a fancy way of displaying this line, but then there are some names that are written with the normal line. (***アーリ*** )
What is the reason behind this. i could’nt find anything on the net.

ー is how you represent a long vowel in katakana. ＝ is occasionally used in names (in anime, video games, etc.) to separate or “hyphenate” two parts of a name, but it’s not meant to be a long vowel. Here it’s being used to demarcate two parts of the name in a strange way, the way the apostrophe does in English. I assume all the void champions have the = in Japanese the same way they have an apostrophe in English.
This usually doesn’t stand for a long vowel, but is used to separate a name, so the reader can see where one part of the name (like the given name) ends and the next part (like the surname) begins.
Usually, the ・ is used in lieu of a space: ジョー・バイデン
If there is some kind of connecting sign in the source language, such as “-” or in the case of LoL, “‘”, = is used: ジャン=リュック・ピカード
