Good SIM card Companies with reasonable plans

I’ll be moving to Shizuoka prefecture this December for work. I was suggested Rakuten or Ymobile, as they have reasonable plans. But I’ve also heard that Sakura Mobile and Mobal are other preferred options.

My main requirement would be Internet usage, on an average maybe 10GB a month. Which company would you suggest? One that has good coverage and a reasonable plan. Note that I’ll only have my foreign credit card with me, as I wouldn’t have opened a bank account by then.

Also is pre-paid generally preferred over post-paid in Japan? Thanks!

  2. The longer you are, the more likely you will have docomo. Seems to be where everyone ends up.

  3. My current thinking is < 1 year go with Mobal. If you will be there > 1, then year bite the bullet and go with Docomo. Mobal now has eSIM phone and data options with a Japanese # and they are easy to work with. Docomo is where you will need to be if you are staying longer term, but can be a bit of a pain to set up.
