Hakone and Kamakura Advice

I’ll be travelling to Japan for my second time in February 2024 with my family who is coming for their first time. However I’ll be arriving in Tokyo 3 days early so I planned to make some quick day trips in my short time solo before I meet up with them later on February 23.

I’d really like to see Hakone and Kamakura/Enoshima so my plan was such:

**Day 1 – February 20**

* Arrive in Tokyo (NRT)
* Settle in and rest at my hotel in Kanda-Otemachi

**Day 2 – February 21**

* Early train to Kamakura
* Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
* Komachi-dori
* Kotoku-in Temple
* Hasedera Temple
* Shichirigahama Beach (if there’s time)
* Enoshima
* Train back to Tokyo

**Day 3 – February 22**

* Early train to Shinjuku
* Odakyu Romancecar to Hakone-Yumoto
* Bus to Amazake Tea House
* Hike on the Old Tokaido Trail
* Explore Motohakone and cruise to Togendai
* Ropeway to Gora
* Bus to Mount View Hakone in Sengokuhara for night stay

**Day 4 – February 23**

* Bus back to Gora and explore the area
* Open Air Museum
* Train back to Hakone-Yumoto to explore the area a bit
* Train back to Tokyo to meet up with my family at 5PM

How doable is this within my time frame? I wanted to maximize my time in both areas without changing hotels too much so I was willing to train back and forth to my hotel in Tokyo between destinations. Making the night stay in Hakone was part of my goal in order to experience the onsens and Mount View Hakone was a really good price for me as a solo traveler although its a little bit of a detour from the usual Hakone Loop. I’m definitely open to suggestions and criticism!

  1. Kamakura itinerary is a little chiche and boring. Hachimangu shrine isn’t very interesting but there are several good temples around, such as Kenchoji, Meigetsuin, Shotoin etc.

    Hakone is okay.
