If you’re planning to visit Kansai West, I highly recommend dropping by Abuto Kannon in Fukuyama, Japan!
Fukuyama is an hour away from osaka by shinkansen. We purchased the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass for this trip. It’s a lot more convenient rather than purchasing tickets on the spot. ☺️
To get to Abuto Kannon, you have to take a 45-minute bus ride from Fukuyama Station to Abuto Kannon Bus Stop (Abuto Kannon-Iriguchi). Before riding the bus, kindly ask for assistance at Fukuyama Bus Information for the time of departure.
If I remember correctly, buses depart twice daily from Fukuyama Station to Abuto Kannon. Please, before heading to the temple, make sure to know the next bus to arrive. The last bus usually arrives at Abuto Kannon by 4:15-4:30pm and will not have a return trip to Fukuyama Station. It will bring you to Tomonoura and exchange buses there to get back to Fukuyama Station. Tomonoura is also a must visit in Fukuyama so it’s better to go early to Abuto Kannon then head to Tomonoura (where wolverine was filmed) after.
Getting back to Abuto Kannon, from the bus stop, you walk 15-20 minutes to get to the temple. Abuto Kannon is a shrine for the goddess of mercy and fertility. You will notice a lot of young married couples visiting the place or couples who wish to bear more children ☺️ The walk to Abuto Kannon is very scenic as it is situated near the sea. Abuto Kannon may not be for everyone but if you love the quiet side of Japan with less crowds and a beautiful view, this one is for you!! ☺️🌸
