Road trip to hakuba and fuji-Q

Hey guys, I am looking for some ideas for my rough itinerary for 27 jan to 5th feb 2024. This is my first skiing trip and I’m thinking of renting a car. My main objectives in these 10 days are to experience skiing in hakuba, enjoy the winter sights on the road, and spend a day in Fuji-Q. I will be landing and flying off from Narita airport. I would love to get some feedback about my itinerary and get some suggestions on what to do between the 4 days of skiing and 1 day at fuji-Q, as this is going to be my first road trip as well.

**Day 1 (27th Jan 2024): Arrival in Tokyo**

Arrive at Tokyo Narita Airport in the morning. Check in to capsule hotel, rest and recover. Explore Tokyo a bit for the rest of the day.

**Day 2 (28th Jan): Travel to Hakuba**

Rent a car and drive to Hakuba.

Check-in to Goryu ski resort hotel.

Relax and explore the local area.

**Day 3-5 (29th Jan – 31st Jan): Hakuba Skiing**

Enjoy skiing and snow activities in Goryu and other parts of Hakuba.

Relax in onsens (hot springs) after a day on the slopes.

**Day 6 (1st Feb): Day trip to Nagano**

Drive and spend the day exploring more of Nagano, such as the historic area around the Zenko-ji Temple.

**Day 7 (2nd Feb): Travel to Fujikawaguchiko**

Drive to Fujikawaguchiko, the base town for Mount Fuji.

Check-in to my accommodation.

Explore the town and enjoy views of Mount Fuji.

**Day 8 (3rd Feb): Fuji Q Highland Theme Park**

Spend the day at Fuji Q Highland Theme Park.

Enjoy thrilling rides and take in views of Mount Fuji.

Return to Fujikawaguchiko for the night.

**Day 9 (4th Feb): Return to Tokyo**

Drive back to Tokyo.

Return the rental car. Check in to a capsule hotel

Depending on my flight time, explore any remaining Tokyo attractions or do some last-minute shopping.

**Day 10 (5th Feb): Departure**

Depart from Tokyo Narita Airport.

  2. Just wondering if/why you may be renting a car out of the Tokyo area? Are you aware of driving on the left side of the road and road tolls? I would be very particular about the proper tires if you plan to visit the Hakuba Valley area..especially getting in to and out of the region.

Had you considered taking the Bullet train to Nagano (city) and perhaps renting a car there? Hakuba valley-generally- has good public bus and sorta ok JR regional train service. Almost all ski areas have shuttles to their base areas. Be aware that the majority of ski are access will have snowy roads. It is not uncommon for the car parks to have pay parking as well.

Are you renting ski’s/board or bringing gear?

Being you are skiing and will likely some luggage to go with that, capsule hotels have very limited space while sleeping. Also, not sure how familiar you are with this type of overnight accom, but capsules often have limited checking in periods and strict checking out times. Perhaps with the money you are spending you may consider hostelling it or a cheaper hotel with maybe access to a Onsen (like around your stay at Fuji)

  3. I’ve spent a lot of time driving in and around Hakuba. Would not recommend it if this your first time driving here. Just use a train and taxis/ubber (once you get there).
