Changing mobile data provider without changing the number.

First of all, pardon me if this is not the right place for my question.

My situation is as follows:
When I came in Japan, Sep 2022, I bought the mobile sim offered by GTN, cuz it was more foreigner friendly. Each month I pay 3280 yen for 10 GB data, which compared to others is kinda expensive. The data provider by itself is Y!mobile. I was thinking to change to other providers which are cheaper. The problem is that in my case GTN is the middle man between me and the Y!mobile.

Does someone know how I can change the data provider without changing my number?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  1. The website of GTN says you can move to another carrier with your current number only if you are using one of the following plans,

    GTN Mobile LITE

    GTN Mobile INFINITY

    GTN Mobile Express

Other plans do not support MNP which is a framework of carrying your number to another carrier in Japan. Look at [this page](https://gtn-mobile.com/en/terms/) for details.

  2. I recently changed to Rakuten, who will let you keep your phone number. You don’t even need to contact your old provider, they do it all on their end. I was shocked how easy it was to stop using the expensive and shitty AU plan I was on.

  3. If it’s a data only plan do you even have a number? If you do have a number then MNP should be OK unless I’m misunderstanding Japan’s mobile setup.

you’ll need MNP number . if you’re living in a city rakuten Mobile will be the cheapest one. just go to one of their outlets and ask for MNP番号で乗り換え
