Is this a viable day trip? From Tokyo to Yokohama

I am looking for advice here.

Planning activity of one of my day in Tokyo. The following locations seems to be all south of Tokyo. Is it viable to go to all 3 on the same day from Tokyo?

1. Fujiko museum (or more well known as Doraemon museum) at kawasaki
2. Cup noodle museum at yokohama
3. Gundam factory at ykokohama

Say I get ticket for fujiko museum at 10 and stay there for 2 hours. Will I have time to go through the rest? Thoughts?

  1. Yes. assume you done seeing museum around 12-13

It took a hour to the noodle museum 14-15 (If you stop for lunch in yokohama first ) .It close at 18.00

The gundam factory close last at 20.00.

If you finish gundam factory around/before 18.00

can try visiting landmark tower for nightview / jump shop.
or dinner in near by china town / malls / near yokohama bay area.

  2. Reckon it’s plenty of time but as a suggestion it’s probably easier to walk from the museum to the Gundam factory.

Though if you’re already there, you probably want to check out chinatown. If it’s late at night I’m pretty sure walking back towards the Akarenga area is quite pretty too. That said, if it’s viable you might want to consider staying one night at Yokohama and visit Enoshima/Kamakura the next day.

  3. Short answer – yes. Do Kawasaki first and spend the rest of the day at in Yokohama. I’d personally want a slightly earlier start in Kawasaki, but that’s just personal preference. Only thing worth considering is the time of year (just to make sure things don’t close earlier in that season) and make sure to check the time for the Gundam Factory shows so you don’t arrive and have to wait too long for the next show you’re wanting to see.

  4. It’s doable as long as you don’t let time get away from you. Start as early as you can. Give yourself extra time to get to places so you’re not running around stressed. There’s a lot to see/do in the Minato-Mirai and surrounding areas so having extra time afterwards is probably not a bad thing.

  5. I know others have chimed in already, but my husband and I did all 3 in a day when we went in October and we had plenty of time! 🙂

I would just add that if you want to make your own personal cup of noodles, do the Cup Noodles museum first because it’s first come first serve with the time slots and they can run out or give you super late times.

  6. Just a quick reminder – the Cup Noodle Museum is closed on Tuesdays! I found out the hard way…

  7. Easily. In fact that’s almost exactly what I did when I visited Yokohama…got to that Gundam Factory at 9am. Ended up at the Cup Noodles Factory by 11am but didn’t stay long. Wanted to go to Chinatown but at lot of the restaurants were packed by noon so I ended up going to the ramen museum and stayed there until 2pm (the line was 45 mins). I got back to my hotel in Shiodome by 3pm. Yokohama is perfect for a day trip.

  8. What is cup noodle Museum? I’m going to be in Yokohama from late feb thru early March. Sounds interesting 😀

  9. Also, the Gundam Factory visit tickets should be also purchased in advance, especially if you want to go up on the Gundam dock.
I did a day trip, ate early lunch in Chinatown, and being a Gundam fan spent about 3 hours at the Factory before going to the Red Brick House and then going back to Tokyo.

You can skip Chinatown if you have access to good Chinese in your area. It’s too touristy and the actual food is overpriced and not as good as NYC or LA have. I was going to Taipei afterwards so Japanese were obsessed with XLB and the best XLB (IMHO) is in Taiwan.
