Is Shinagawa Immigration backed up again?

I submitted my renewal immigration application in early September and still haven’t heard anything back yet. Up until now, I’ve previously never had a problem and promptly was approved within a month. However the last time I applied was before COVID so I’m not sure what changed these past few years…
If I don’t receive my results by my expiration deadline, what should I do?

  1. You usually wait for the post card. Pre Covid it took me two months, during covid it didn’t take that long because the country was locked down until the end of last year, so no one was applying for any kind of visa. If you’re worried about it, call them.

  2. Makes me happy living in a prefecture like Nara. Walk in with no other people in the entire office and get my renewal within a week every time.

  3. Didn’t you receive a piece of paper saying you are in the re-application process? This paper allows you to travel while you are re-applying for your visa.

If you still have this, then don’ t sweat it.
