Hi, planning on doing a semester abroad in Japan next year. My university has agreements with Waseda, Hitotsubashi, Kyoto and Kobe University, but I don’t know which one to pick. Due to how my master is set up the exchange is an additional semester I’d do on after I’ve technically already finished my master’s degree in sociology. I’m not really going for academic reasons (+ I read that English humanities/social science course in Japan aren’t that hard) more so because I really want to visit Japan. So I care more about location, cost of living (not unimportant for me), entertainment, social ife…
Hitotsubashi still offered the most interesting courses (might as well study something interesting if I have to) but it was quite far from the center of Tokyo compared to Waseda. I probably have the highest chance to get selected to get to Kobe, but I’d really love to study in Tokyo since I feel like there’s more to experience there. I know it’s close to Osaka which is a large city but idk how it compares to Tokyo. Same story for Kyoto, but I’m less likely to get selected for that one since I’d compete with my whole uni for the spots available.
Where would I be able to get the most out of my stay? How do my options compare regarding social life/international community? Any advice or previous experiences are appreciated 🙂
