After researching for a few days for wifi, everything led me to WiMAX. Finally got it and set it up only to get LITERALLY 1/1000th of the speed that people are saying I should be getting. I understand the websites exaggerate but my lord. Does anyone have any recommendations for wifi? This is insane. I don’t know how it’s even legal. I know wired would be better but I plan to move within the next few months, so it doesnt seem worth it. I dont expect anything crazy, but something faster than 20mpbs down and 1mbps up is mindblowing.

Anything over the air is affected by where you live, where you place the device, etc, etc. You have already said it — you need wired.
I have flets and installed my own router. Works wonders and I never has signal issues
My internet has always been great here. My home wired setup is faster than anything I had in the US and even when using my iPhone as a hotspot for my laptop and iPad it’s pretty great, easily able to run Netflix, host Zoom meetings and gaming even when running through a VPN.
Had AU for many years. Triple the speed I had in the US. Have never heard of bad Wifi here 🤷♂️
I think my first apartment was around that speed.
But coming from Florida where the most expensive plan got you like 3mbs MAX wired I was more than satisfied.
Moved into an apartment at the beginning of this year that had free fiber optic internet provided by sony through DK SELECT daito trust. Came with a modern high spec router from sony that supports wifi6 with speeds well over 500mbs and over 2000mbs wired. Never had a problem with it.
If you can find such a listing its def worth looking for great internet service at no extra cost
What are you even asking for? Wimax is antique.
Get a SIM.
For home get fiber.
Apart from rather low bandwidth, with WIMAX or any other LTE provider (4G or even 5G) the latency is usually bad too, at least 50ms and more (think 100ms etc.).
I’m pretty sure they shut down WiMAX like 7 years ago when 4G became a thing. Could that be why it sucks for you..?
With WiMax I’d recommend you to never use the AU cellular mode, because it can screw you for a month.
WiMax mode it is 10Gb over a rolling 3 day period. If you exceed your limit you will have slow internet during peak hours (you can just about squeeze out a YouTube video), but normal internet during other times.
If you go into AU mode and exceed your limit, your internet speed is reduced to utter uselessness for the rest of the month *during all hours*. It’s not written properly in their documentation. Found out when I called them.
Another general problem with WiMAX is that it gets worse the more people are using it in the same area. So that might also be your problem.
Aaah yes, everybody knows WiFi is slower in Japan, it’s the four seasons interrupting the signal.
WiMAX is mobile internet, probably a third party mvo with restricted speeds.
