Vice Versa actually, My Father lived in Japan and passed. Anyone able to help me figure out how to move his belongings back home?

First of all I’m half Japanese, and neither my brother or myself speak Japanese, we have been lucky enough to spend a good deal of time with my father in Japan (Funabashi) but he was always there to help us communicate.

\- Last year, when we settled his affairs in Japan we organized what we would like to keep from his house for shipment a later date.
\- I was recently notified the house will be demolished/reconstructed for sale in April
\- There is a quite a bit we would like to bring home to the U.S. (no furniture, but some big and heavy decorative and personal items)
The house does have sufficient space for a little moving pod, but I have never seen anything like that in my travels there. Does some type of option like this exist in Japan?
I really have no idea where to start, but I’d love if someone pointed me in the right direction. I was wondering if there was some type of freelance interpreter forum we could use to hire someone local to Funabashi to help us out.

  2. You’re lucky that you’re close to Narita. I’d check with airlines about sending a flat of items to your destination.

  3. A local proxy to sign for you and look at kuroneko freight and moving. They ship via boat. This will be a lot cheaper than airplane. And if you can wait 5 to 8 weeks depending on where you need it to go, it’s economical. Shipped over 3 pallets during Covid for about 500k jpy.
