  1. It should be in your contract, or in your company’s rules. Normally if you don’t show up for work or clearly fail to perform your duties, this is grounds for termination.

  2. Just deal with it like a big boy. Resign as per law. You have more to lose if you just stop showing up.

  3. Just not showing up would be a contract breach, and there may be consequences. So I recommend you resign. You are obligated to perform the work you are contracted for.

There is no exact time you have to find a job. Immigration may start the process to revoke your status and send you back after 3 months. But this is not a hard deadline, and they may not do anything. But you should probably try to find something within 3 months to be sure.

  4. Theoretically they could call the cops in terms of “we are worried about his safety” which could make your life a bit difficult. Best just to drop an official dueces email and then bounce.

  5. No one will recommend that to you. But there is nothing like living dangerously. I guess it depends who else you put on the line. Feel like getting a sanction? Having no reference letter from this employer to the next?

Are you ready to do it? For how long?
When they call your phone, are you not going to answer?

You could say you got arrested for a crime you didn’t commit. That’s 23 days.

</s> You will be stuck in Limbo on the borders of the Damned at the appointed abode of those who have not received the grace of Nippon while living, and yet have not deserved the punishments of the Willful and Impenitent. </s>

Your Japanese company is required to give you a “resignation certificate” which you NEED to present to your next job to get hired. That resignation certificate (退職証明書 or 離職票) means you cannot just “just stop showing up for work” —– You must “officially” resign and then pick up your “resignation certificate”, tax slip, etc. in order to get a new job.
