COE Trouble

I’m in need of some help. I recently received my COE for an English teaching position that I am no longer pursuing. I have made it known that I will no longer be working there. Now I am still looking for another position, but what do I do with my COE from my last job I was considering? Do I still need to apply for another COE or do I keep this one? I’ve also heard that it will pose more trouble now that I have already been granted a COE, and searching for another one will just be even more difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. You definitely can’t use your COE for a different job — they’re good for one person and one employer only, and when you go to pick up your visa, you’ll need to swear that nothing material has changed regarding the circumstances of your employment.

Moreover, you’ll have trouble applying for another COE while this one is outstanding. You’ll need to have this one returned to Immigration to be cancelled before (or at the same time as) your employer applys for another one.

Then the CoE needs to be returned to immigration (or potentially just your local Japanese embassy/consulate) and voided.

Once that’s done you’re clear to begin any new applications from scratch should another opportunity come along.

If anything it will be easier since you’ve already gathered the required documents once. Just make sure you follow the processes and don’t try to pull any tricks.
