Customs on goods when going back to home country?

I was wondering about electronic devices specifically. I wanted to buy a PS5 here in Japan but I was wondering if I can incur into paying additional costs at customs if I go back to Europe with it when I’ll go visit my parents? (I hope I was clear enough help)

  1. no, nobody will care about you bringing a personal use ps5 in your baggage. they won’t even ask at all.

  2. You always have an allowance on what value of goods you can bring back without having to pay custom/tax. Just check custom rules of your country and you will know the amount.

  3. depends on the laws of the country you are entering.
paying taxes and tariffs is thebest case, as you can fix it with money. if the products fall within other regulations, you are screwed. for example, electric security, if the device has an internal acdc transformer and plugs directly into the wall socket, it migth be prohibited to import. you will lose the goods unless you have the permits or documents required by that country

  4. Its a matter of destination country Customs, Japan Customs mostly don’t really care about what thing you take out. Depends on country regulations, there are limits/restriction on what can be brought into, whether personal use or else.
example, my country if they check that you have something in a package/retail looks in quantities, you may be tax on it.

  5. You will have to pay import duties on goods you bring into a country with the intention of leaving it there. You have a free allowance, which e.g. is 430€ for Germany when coming from outside of the EU via plane.

They are not very strict on checking your luggage. Worst I ever had was a customs officer asking if I was carrying any electronics as presents. Said no and that was it. Just note that if you take the green channel out and they do a random check you will probably be fucked. Value of a PS5 is easy to check and not something people will usually carry around (and back).
