American Visas longer than 3 months

So I was planning on visiting Japan and get the 3 month single entry visa. I wanted to leave and come back again after 1 month staying there but the visa is single entry only it seems. Any advice on getting the full 3 months? Also extending it? Thanks.

  2. The United States and Japan have a visa waiver agreement, which means in general you can just show up unannounced and get permission to remain in Japan for up to 90 days. If you stay for a month, leave for a few days, and come back again, that 90 days resets.
You can be in Japan up to 180 days in a trailing 12 month period using these short term visitor statuses.

If you’ve got a complicated situation you could also discuss with your local Japanese embassy/consulate about applying for a multiple entry short term visitor visa, but that’s probably overkill.

  3. Your query would.be better directed to the Japanese embassy in your country (or, wherever you are located)

  4. I’m not sure I understand what you want to do. You want to come in for 30 days then come in again for 60 days?

As an American, you have a 90 days tourist waiver, it cannot be extended.

Visa runs such as hopping to Korea for a minimum of 24h and coming back to get another 90 days, while possible, has always been a grey area in the law and is something that they have been much more strict about in recent years.

They are unlikely to ask questions the first time around but be prepared for the possibility all the same that you could be refused entry to the country.

  5. I don’t think I understand your question… It seems you’re talking about Japanese tourist visa but you write American visa in the title… If you are coming from a non visa exemption country and applied for the single entry visa, the moment you landed on Japan, your single entry visa becomes invalid which means once you have left Japan, you can’t go back no matter how long you stayed there.

  6. If you are American and you enter japan on a 90 day tourist visa and leave after a month, then enter japan again a week later or a month later or whatever, you’ll get another 90 day visa. If you stay for 89 days then leave and spend the weekend in Korea and then come back for another 90 days, they might have some questions for you. (Like, how are you affording this?) But if it’s just the scenario you described you’re probably fine.
