Problems with sending references

So i have some confusion about this part of the application.

last year i sent JET the emails of my referees.
my referees were then directed to the JET site and asked to log in.
– do they need to create an account?

the way i did it last year was just to have them send me thier letters and i upload them instead, my referees didn’t really take inititive and i felt bad expecting them to, did i shoot myself in the foot with this?

am i missing something?
What is the process?

  1. Can’t say if your country has different guidelines to mine, but in the UK our referees were sent an email link to a portal to upload the references. The email from JET often seemed to fall into my referees spam inbox, so it’s worth checking they’ve received the email with the upload link.

    Afaik they didn’t need to create an account.

    I would refrain from sending them from your own account as references are intended to be anonymous and who’s to say you couldn’t edit what your referee wrote.

  2. In the US, at least, my writers uploaded the letters to the portal. You send a request to their email through the portal and they upload it to that link.
