I’ve been thinking of getting a new hanko and titanium really appeals to me. They seem to be going from about 1000 yen onwards on Rakuten, but Askul and my local hanko shop prices them closer to 10000 yen. Are the ones on Rakuten a scam, or are the established businesses marking them way up?

there’s only one way to find out
Some cities used to refuse registering hankos not made of wood. Not sure how it is nowadays.
I can see any metal hanko ripping the paper when pushed against the soft pad under it, personally. More of a novelty?
I bought a couple on amazon for about 2000-3500yen each, case included. They are locally produced and come with written lifetime warranty so if you find out they are not real metal I guess you can claim it back. And either way can claim it back with Amazon itself, so I wont worry to much of it being fake.
On physical stores the markup has no limit. I have seen stores with titanium 15mm seals for 3000y and also for 18000yen. Online will always be more competitive.
I bought one of those 1000yen Titanium hanko back in 2020. It was well made and works perfectly.
