Can someone explain the differences and purpose of 数学A,B,C,I,II,III?

Supposedly, 数学A and 数学I in 高1, 数学B and 数学II in 高2, and 数学III in 高3, with 数学C also being in 高3, though not widely taken. 数学IIB is mainly for those pursuing sciences in general, while 数学C is for aspiring engineering majors or medicine majors at top universities. I’m an engineering major at a middle-ranked public university and I wasn’t required 数学C for my university entrance exam. I mention “supposedly” because in high-demanding schools (進学 with high 偏差値), 数IA and 数IIB are covered in 高1, then they just review the content in the following years and do harder problems.
