Any tips for our 9 Day Okinawa trip?

Hello Reddit,

Me (26M), my brother (22), and my mother (54) is travelling around Okinawa, Japan from Dec 24 – Jan 1. I have prepared the below itinerary and would like your opinion on it. I’m still looking around for which places to eat (would like to have B/L/D) and would appreciate your suggestions. Also, does anyone have any idea if it would be expensive to get a driver.

Day 1 – Koshikawa Garden, Tokyo

Day 2 – Ichiba Farmer’s Market, Okinawa | L: Tonkatsu Donburi @ Tonkatsu Taro

Day 3 – Churaumi Aquariium | L: Miso Soup @ Chie Shokudo

Day 4 – Tsuboya Pottery District | D: Tsukemen @ Hachiren

Day 5 – Kane Sword Workshop |

Day 6 – Cooking Class with Nao | D: Golden Miso @ Arashi

Day 7 – Shuri Castle | L: Tonkotsu Ramen @ Motibaru

Day 8 – Naminoue Shrine |

Day 9 – Kokusaidor |

As it’s the wintertime, we’re not really eager to go for beaches and stuff.

  1. It sounds good and relaxed, I wouldn’t worry too much about breakfast as there are convenience stores on literally every corner, and they have a huge selection of food like sushi or pasta. The famous dishes in Okinawa are bittermelon stir fry, spam onigiri, and taco rice. For some reason steak is a big thing there too.

  2. Since your trip is pretty relaxed, you could include some of the capes that occur along the coastline like Maeda and Zanpa? We had a lot of fun driving along the beautiful coastline, exploring the capes and taking photos. There’s also an American diner style cafe at cape zanpa that we kinda liked. We also went in winters.

  3. I’m not sure what part you’re staying in; however, if you happen to end up near Chatan, I’d recommend Kyoto Ramen.
