1. It’s a funny headline, but the article itself does a good job at highlighting it as a serious issue. The touch-and-go aspect as well is extremely dangerous; it’s a surefire way to spread a new disease if anything ever arises.

   It’s clear that the problem is due to outdated prostitution laws that don’t account for the fact that men also work as prostitutes. If this continues to be a problem than it’s only a matter of time until the law is updated and the situation is swiftly dealt with – especially if it gets more press.

   But while the laws around male prostitutes are lagging, I don’t understand why they don’t act quicker with the current laws. The lagging laws would be an issue if they were Japanese, but the article says that these guys are here on tourist visas and that makes any kind of work illegal for them. Additionally, if they have any sort of residency 水商売 remains illegal for foreigners. They could easily deal with the problem on those grounds alone. The anti-prostitution laws absolutely need updated, but I fail to see how that is necessary for dealing with this specific issue.
