Better career option

Recently I was offered 2 positions from 2 different companies.
My priority is the first company which offer me 6.7M with a lots of benefits such as 401K and pension, and also discount on their products.
The position I was offered is junior position for system validation engineer, I have a work experience for about 2.5 years as Shakaijin, it is a pretty good deal from my end.
But after I inform my recruiter, she negotiated with the 2nd company, currently they are willing to give me 7.8M as a software engineer.

My current salary is around 4.5M. Both companies is based on Aichi, Nagoya.
What do you guys think is the best company if you have this option?

  1. Do you know what both are doing? And try to fit that in your path going forward. Both of them are pretty contrast in terms of what they provide to the customers/how they do things.

  2. Might be a good idea to be a bit more vague about your job offer conditions. You’ve provided a lot of information that could identify you to your potential employers in this post.

  3. 7.8M at 2.5 YOE for FPT Japan is a very good offer, I would prioritize them if you are Vietnamese.

  4. FPT Japan, despite the name and whatever they say, is Vietnamese. There are non-Vietnamese employees here and there I’m sure but the top will probably mostly be Vietnamese.

I know some VNeses who work for FPT. Culture is quite 体育会 from what I’ve been told. Have no idea if same thing applies to non-Vietnamese staff. Lots of pressure to join company dinner, nomikai etc. Vietnamese people probably have more 仲良しごっこ than normal Japanese companies.

That’s not to say you should not choose FPT especially since I have absolutely no info on the other company. Just sharing what I have been told really.

  5. Personally, I would consider whether or not that 7.8M comes with more responsibilities or not.

Make sure you know what they expect from you. If not really much changes, then no particular problem. Go for the higher salary. However, if they expect more work from you, etc, then be prepared for that or go for the lower salary.

  6. Most companies have 401K option. Japan’s 401K is not like America FYI. Both companies are likely to have it. Which one do you like better. Software engineering seems to be the best option.

  7. Take the job that lines you up better for your n + 1 job.

The single best career advice I give anybody: get the job that would help you get the next job.
