Expiring residence card and the bank

So my resident card is expiring this week but due to some complications with my taxes and other stuff they couldn’t start the application to renew my visa earlier.
My bank (JP POST) is telling me to submit a renewed zairyu or they’ll restrict the account.
Can I show them the notification that shows it’s in the renewal process?

  1. Get out as much money as you can. They will freeze your account once the expiry date passes. Even if you are in the renewal process. Source: happened to me. And as a result I now start renewal process 3 months before expiry.

  2. That other person is saying to pull your money out so you might want to be careful, but normally once you start the renewal process you have a stamp on your residence card saying your status has been extended by 3 months, showing that should work? Might be worth calling the JP Post though

  3. Huge pain to deal with. But yes you can show them the notification and get at the very least a temporary unfreeze on the account. Though expect to get the cold shoulder and be told no a lot by stupid low level front facing staff that don’t know any better.

Go to a more central office and try your luck there. Also bring other identification like drivers license and passport to help supplement the expired card.
