Yabei

I’m wondering if this is a word that gets used in Japanese or if it even is a word.

I came across it on the internet and from what I can see it is a more slang version of yabai, but I can’t find any examples of it being used anywhere.

  1. Just kind of slang, people won’t pronounce every word clearly in their daily chat. Then やばい turns into やべ

  2. Definitely gets used a lot in colloquial Japanese, especially by young people.

  3. なげぇ
    たけぇ
    みじけぇ
    うるせ
    だせ

But the one I hate the most is

    むず

  4. The word is やばい which means “terrible” or “dangerous” but a lot of young people use it as slang to mean something like “amazing”

Similar to how あほ means “stupid” but as slang it can mean “cool”

We do the same thing in English. Like how “sick” can be used to refer to something as “cool” or “awesome”.

  5. It’s the same as yabai, but you’re correct, its slangier and comes off stronger. It’s used more by men I would say. (I’m a japanese woman. I use yabai a lot but rarely use yabei, my male boss uses it all the time though)
