Tokyo Ueno to Iiyama Station

Does anyone have recommendations the best way to go about getting a shinkansen roundtrip ticket to Iiyama Station for a foreigner? Best price. I’m going to arrive at NRT at 8am in January and need to get to Iiyama. Should I just pay for everything when I arrive? Book in advance? Looks like there’s a skyliner train from nrt to Ueno I was going to use. Then jump on the shinkansen. Also does anyone have any recommendations to rent a snowboard near or close to Iiyama area before I go to a ski resort and most likely I assume pay extra? Just asking some travel tips thanks!

  1. You can book both skyline and shinkansen on klook. That said give ample time to navigate customs and ueno station.

You also won’t go wrong just winging it as these trains almost never sell out. Even if they do sell out, you can take the next train in…5 minutes.

  2. Which resort do you want to ski at? Madarao?
Rent your gear at the resort, otherwise you have to carry it.

  3. When I was there earlier this month, I bought a round trip Shinkansen & local train from Ueno to Izu-Atagawa. I had no problem getting a reserved seat, and the gentleman working the kiosk hooked me up with the Fuji side seat when it was visible, and an ocean side seat when I headed down the peninsula.

I’ll throw out a recommendation for a small ramen shop just inside the Asakusa entrance/exit. Buy your meal ticket from the screen outside and hand it to the cooks inside. It doesn’t show up on Gmaps, but it’s right next to [this place](https://maps.app.goo.gl/1B3RDV6JXuVyMrvA6).

    Have a great time!
