Advice from any Irish who got married in Japan on the Freedom to Marry/ Affidavit

I’m just filling out the documents now but I’m not sure about the MP2A Declaration form that needs to be completed with a witness.
It says that they must be either:
A diplomat or consular office of Ireland,
A notary public or a commissioner for Oaths.

I’ve tried contacting the embassy but they’re useless, can anyone recommend where to get it done in Tokyo or if it’s even possible to get it done at the embassy?

Also, how long did it take to get the Freedom to Marry Certificate?

Thank you!

  1. That’s the thing you need to get the proof that you aren’t married to someone in your own country, right?

You should be able to make an appointment at your consulate/embassy for someone to sign off on it for you.

  2. I looked at the timeframes (even if they’re worst case numbers) and went with the British for mine I’m afraid.

  3. Went through this 2 years ago without going to the embassy by using a Japanese notary. Sent you a pm.
I’ll do a short write up later because there’s not a lot of info online.
