Setting Up Gas in Japan

hi, moving for the first time in a long time. i was told to call **nihon gasu kabushiki gaisha** to set it up. aside from the monthly rate, they said the start up fee will be over 10,000 Yen for i guess insurance? is that right?

i havent done this in a long time, but i don’t remember it being that much?

  1. You really need to give some more details about where you live. There has been deregulation in the gas industry but most areas still have one company that is bigger than the others. Osaka Gas in Osaka, for example.

    If you don’t like the pricing from one place you can probably call another one. If you are using propane (プロパン) instead of city gas (都市ガス) then the setup fee is more understandable, and your monthly costs will be higher as well. You can still shop around though.

  2. Is it a start up fee or a deposit? In my area everyone pays 10,000 yen as a deposit but gets it back after moving out
