  1. In Tokyo, would like to buy a wood pole (about 100cm long, 3.5cm wide) and get it cut at an angle (around 45 degrees) in a few places.

Tokyu Hands (well, guess just Hands now) told me they couldn’t do it because they didn’t have the proper guides available for their cutter.

Is this a problem I am going to encounter if I start hunting down home centers? Or even better, a website that will let me order this? A few I found said that they too would only do straight cuts.

  2. Inspired by the gifts when you visit your home country thread, what’s a nice Japanese Whiskey to bring home? Budget is 5000 (maybe up to 7000) because likely will also be buying them sake and other things too. Considering a bottle of From the Barrel at the moment.

  3. Is the tap water really that dangerous (I know all tap water is suspect)? I don’t have the means to buy water jugs with the amount I drink. I feel more confident about the water here because most places don’t add fluoride, but I hear about tremors can loosen things up in pipes and that’s why you shouldn’t drink it.

  4. Premium deluxe stupid question award nominee:

Why does Japanese gasoline smell so bitter? North American gas always had a weird sweet smell – does anyone know why or what additives are responsible for the smell?

  5. Just got an iPhone from someone at work to use as a spare.
How do I check if this is locked to a specific carrier?(they didn’t know.)

  6. Is there any way to express a yu-pack?

One of our clients needs a package by tomorrow. We’re in Hiroshima, they’re in Tokyo. Besides sending someone to hand deliver it, does Japan post or any of the couriers have something like “pay us 2x and we’ll get it to them as quickly as possible”
