Starting again with Japanese, but mostly from 0

Greetings to everyone!

I wanted to start again with Japanese and finally get to learn it well enough to remember it.

Thus I decided that I would like to start with grammar and vocabulary, using Anki to remember the vocabulary and learn to speak first, leaving Kanji last.

I thought that using the Core series of Flash cards would work for this first endeavor.

What I don’t know and I would appreciate your input and support is:

1. How many words should I learn per day?
Is it foolish to pick 10-15 words a day?

2. What Core deck should I start with? Should I start with the 1 or 2k?

3. What resource should I use for grammar, I’m looking to start constructing sentences with the vocab I learn so that I can speak with friends in Japanese to practice speaking it?
I do have a good physical book and while it covers basic grammar, much of it is much more advanced and covers N5 trough N1 and requires knowing Kanji.

4. While stupid, is it indeed true the statement that 80% of the words you use the most is the most basic 1k words?

I know some of you do 100 new words a day but university doesn’t leave me so much time, I presume at 10/day, 3 months to learn basic conversation in Japanese is a good pace?

5. Is learning the words by rote and then bashing my head with Anki the way to go? How should Anki be used for this? And how best to learn the words before using Anki?

Thank you for the support and help! I wish everyone a nice day, and I hope I haven’t angered anyone with the length of message!

  1. Probably not the right place for recommendations.

But one thing I’ll point out is that making your own anki cards is 1 billion times better than downloading a random deck.
