Yesterday my superior asked me to do overtime, i denied two times. Today they pressured me to do overtime again, saying that i HAVE TO do it, and if i didnt i would cause problems to the factory that i work for. I still denied, more than 5 times, until they said if i didnt do it, they would fire me. In the end i worked two more hours, and i feel honestly so exhausted. I feel miserable working almost 11 hours and they made it very clear that i HAD to keep working overtime almost everyday and also on weekends. I quit the job, and i honestly cant wait to leave this place.
Edit: just to clarify, i made the post to vent about being tired from working long hours, I do get paid. The post is not about the money.

Somebody out there will miss you. Maybe.
Worked in a factory when I was in my late teens as a アルバイト not パート. アルバイトare like full time employees without the social insurance.
As an アルバイト were obligated to do overtime if needed. i’m sure it’s not the law, just their own policy.
That sounds awful. I haven’t heard many stories about factory jobs, but I still have to hear a good one.
If you have a good grasp of your contract and can deal with bullshit without getting stressed or anxious, you can wait for them to fire you. Which I don’t think is likely that would happen.
But yeah, you don’t sound like you like the place. So getting out is good. As soon as you have another job lined up, or enough savings to indulge.
You should have let them fire you. You quit so no unemployment for you.
For a normal contract: They can order you to work overtime, but they do have to pay you an overtime rate for anything that goes beyond your minashi zangyou.
But probably better decision to quit overall.
Overtime exists in most jobs within Japanese companies, but the least they can do is be transparent about it and ensure you’re paid for it. Myself, I work about 15 hours overtime per month but it’s written into my contract and I’m compensated accordingly. “Have to” may be true but they don’t have to be dickheads about it.
I work in a factory, all benefits are paid for. We get off on all holidays and only work 3 hours every other Saturday , and practically no overtime (max 20 min per day most days 0 min)
Employers can legally require you to work mandatory overtime just like the USA. The difference is the Japanese government has placed limits on OT where the US has not.
Good thing you left. Unfortunately there are thousands of replacements that will do overtime so things will not
change much.
That being said unionized factories are almost on the other side of the spectrum where they will not allow overtime even if you need the money

Are they paying you for that overtime? If not, even Japan has labor laws.
Overtime work culture is toxic and vicious here. Many places have overtime work built into their base salary/hours… my partner’s contract includes “40 or more overtime hours” per month in his base salary, and a clause to allow for no overtime to be paid if addition hours are worked.
My contract schedules me for 16 hour work days so to include overtime into those base hours just incase…
It’s not great. I’m sorry
The unemployment rate in Japan is so low that really I don’t see how anyone would cling to such job.
Just find another and quit.
For the future but, can they let you sleep? Like I thought sleeping on the job was a sign ur working hard and that ur tired and deserve rest. I’m not sure how it applies in a factory setting though.
A lot of people here seem to not really understand みなし残業. In most cases みなし残業 is largely in place as a means to simplify and normalize budgets so the company doesn’t have large shifts in salary expenses month to month and also to easily simplify payroll work. It does not mean you are required to or even expected to work overtime. Your company may very well expect or demand overtime, but in most cases that’s unrelated to the presence or absence of みなし残業.
Bruh you worked +2 hours. lol
Instead of quitting you should have made sure you got paid for those hours worked.
Unfortunately Japan has toxic overtime standards. While most jobs in any country want you to be reliable for overtime when needed, japan is definitely horrendous. I’m glad you quit, but you should’ve let them fire you to get the benefits of that route. As for my, I take about 50% of overtime requests (1-2 hours extra), but that’s not a massive deal for me as I literally live 100 meters from work, so I don’t waste time commuting haha
People like this needs to train for a job they will enjoy and not think it’s a job. Otherwise, you shouldn’t complain and accept that you’re allowing to be treated as a workhorse.
I trained to be an engineer and know my worth. I choose who to work for, my salary, and hours. There are not enough engineers, so please, self-educate. – Work be needed and not be replaceable.
Next time don’t quit. Call in sick while you consult Labor or whatever appropriate office. If a job is stressing you to the point of affecting your life, you might be able to get a doctor to put you on disability leave, which is part paid.
I had the same shit this week. despite I told my boss last year, and the year before that, and before that that I DON’T WORK OVERTIME. Every year there is that shit getsumatsu when he decide that we need to work overtime. We had some fight. AGAIN. But it’s not gonna go anywhere. I just fkng tired to talk about this over and over again. This time he even gathered 3 of us and 2 of them said yes. But after that 1 of them complained about doing overtime to me.
