Unfortunately, this year, I won’t have anyone to celebrate with due to friends being very busy this weekend with plans already made in advance. So I live not too far away from Tokyo, I’m looking for some suggestions on how to spend the day. I’m not a party type/ bar type. I’m more mellow of a person that enjoys more scenic places and chill vibes. Are there any interesting places you recommend? No hostess/maid haha I don’t pay for fake attention.

Happy birthday! What type of scenic exactly?
go fishing in ibaraki
I had to do the same thing this summer don’t worry you’re not alone. My friend came to see me from US and spent my entire birthday with a bumble girl because it was a “once in a lifetime thing” despite him being 6’6 blonde hair blue eyes and it was his first day there.
I hit up some arcades, got some really good food and beer, and went to shop for myself. Just do what makes you happy! If I were in Tokyo I’d get some grub with you man. Cheers and happy birthday
celebrate it on a different day that is mutually convenient for you and your friends
Sounds like me every year. Except for the friends part.
I would sometimes take an overnight trip somewhere. Kawaguchiko, Hakone, Gunma, Nagano, etc. Fall leaves are happening, so you can check those places out.
But, usually I would work on my birthday.
* Are you a man or a woman?
* How old are you/will you be?
* Do you have any interests or hobbies?
* Do you have any dislikes besides compensated attention?
* Do you have a budget?
You could at least treat yourself to a nicer dinner 🙂 splurge on your favorite food or some fancy cake or something
Is there something you’d be interesting in trying? Like a one off cooking class / cultural taiken class?
Camping or Gramping.
I just had a birthday and I celebrated by taking time off and putting my phone on DND for 5 days. It was the best. Slept in every day. No calls or texts or emails about work. No worrying about my teachers so I could actually go to be on time. Best birthday ever. 10/10 would recommend hermit mode.
If you wake up early and participate in a meditation session (zazen) on your birthday, your soul may be purified. There seems to be a temple in Ibaraki where this is held every day. If you declare it’s your birthday, you may get hit more than usual:)
It’s only in Japanese, so please machine translate it.

A nice hike in the mountains or a park? Or go to an out-of-way museum exhibit or a nice book store like Tsutaya bookstore in Daikanyama that you normally wouldn’t have time to. It’s not often you have the time or excuse to treat yourself completely to something you enjoy, I’d say make the most of it.
FYI Showa Kinen Park in Tachikawa has leaves in full autumn colors right now. [https://www.timeout.com/tokyo/things-to-do/showa-kinen-park-autumn-leaves-evening-light-up](https://www.timeout.com/tokyo/things-to-do/showa-kinen-park-autumn-leaves-evening-light-up)
Free advice: don’t be judgemental about the way other people spend their time and maybe people will hang out with you in your birthday.
Just be thankful you are still young enough that a birthday is something to celebrate.
Mine’s on Saturday.
It’s a nice timing for colored leaves, if I were you I would look for places with colored leaves to go and take pictures at. Maybe have a picnic. Maybe go to my home country’s authentic restaurant. Happy birthday btw!
I’m not in Tokyo, so I don’t know what the birthday specials are, but sometimes you can score free cake or a discount on glasses or something on your birthday.
If I were in Tokyo on my birthday, I’d go to Meiji Jingu for a stroll, have Mexican food at Shinjuku and see a movie or go to a museum in the afternoon. Buy a bento and a piece of cake at a department store, take it home and watch a movie.
Try going to parks, I think its the peak or just past the peak for autumn leaves. Prepare yourself a picnic, and a nice reading material.
You might also try solo hiking like going to Takao. There’s a lot of people for the lively atmosphere, depends how you see it
Lots of options for this. Yoyogi and Meiji Jingu. Shinjuku Gyoen. Ueno (this area is nice, because you can hit the park, the zoo, and the museum all in one area). Or get out of the city and do a day hike near Fuji, Kamakura, Takao. Treat yourself to an onsen or spa day. Catch a movie at the theater, or hit up something more traditional like Kabuki-za. Splurge on a nice sushi dinner. So many options.
Happy birthday!
I would go for a long early morning hike or walk. A restaurant, cafe, or coffee shop that you have been wanting to try can be your destination. Treat yourself!
Get a book or audiobook about a topic that you are curious about. You won’t regret learning something new and books are a nice way to put a timestamp on life.
Happy Birthday!
Chichibu is having their yearly Night festival this Saturday and Sunday. It’s a pretty big festival with floats and fireworks.

I have only once paid for fake attention. 2000 yen for a cheap one hour nomihodai. Talked to 5 girls, they were really nice and beautiful. Didnt feel fake at all. It was so good I might go back one day, but just as you, Im the type who is not into that (on this day I had to follow friends but I dont regret it)
buy a lottery ticket or something
