Free calls to America

Is there any recommendations about calling an American number for free? I have to call my insurance and I don’t want to spend a fortune. I know you can call put $10 on Skype for a few calls but is there a way I can call for free?

  1. Google Voice. You need a US number to start, **but if you can talk a friend or family member into helping you set it up**, you can make phone calls for free to anywhere in the US just like if you had a US cell phone. You can even set up the app to work as VoIP so you don’t have to give it a phone number to forward to once you have set up the account.

  2. idk about free but Skype USA call pack is like 330 yen for 2000? or maybe unlimited minutes. of course not really worth it for a one off call but..

  3. It’s not free but I use Brastel .. it’s cheap .. and about 3000 yen lasts for years for me and I call many the U.S. and make a lot of business calls

  4. If your insurance company has a US toll free number, just install Skype. You don’t need to pay anything or sign up for anything special to be able to call US toll free numbers from Skype.

If you want a more general way to call US numbers for free then Google Voice is amazing.

  5. I use TextNow. It’s free but I pay extra to secure a phone number and to receive text messages for $5 a year.

  6. Yeah. I use Google Voice.

It requires a VPN and a US phone to receive the activation SMS, but afterwards you can just remove the phone from your account and just use the Google Voice number.

  7. Skype isn’t free but an unlimited subscription to the US and Canada costs about $6/month. It also gets you a US phone number you can receive calls on your PC or cell phone in Japan.

  8. Does your insurance company not have a toll free number? If customer service has a 1-800 or similar, then you can call using Skype without using credits. (Did it myself a couple months ago)
