Self-introduction video

So the job that I had cleaning rooms in the accommodation place that I am staying at decided that from 1st December to nearly end of January that my job will be gave to another resident that just arrived and due to not having a contract there is nothing I can do.

So now I have to create a self introduction video for Yolo and I am really nervous since I dislike filming myself. Also, I am struggling with my Japanese so I can’t say much.

So I was wondering for any tips or advice.

  1. You are not necessarily required to do a video in Japanese. I have been able to get jobs on YOLO with my self-introduction video in English.

  2. Have a friend sit across from you (like maybe behind the camera so it’ll still look like you’re looking at the camera) and talk to them. If it has to be in Japanese, write down what you want to say and spend a bit of time writing it, adding to it, editing it, etc before you decide to record. You can also see what other people say for their self introductions to get an idea for what to include in yours.

  3. How long of a video should it be? There are different formats for giving a self-introduction. The most common one people use in daily life is just a brief, rather cut and dry name/whatever relevant info you need to give

but if you need to fill a 2-3 minute slot, for example, you can also use another format. I’ve heard ones where people use an エピソード from their lives to sort of highlight their personality/show what kind of person they are, or a funny way to remember their name, or otherwise share an interesting fact about themselves.

  4. just imagine the phone/camera is a very close friend, but for some reason they want you to do a self introduction just for the fun of it

  5. I tried using yolo but they wanted me to upload my resident card. Fuck that. You’re better off using a recruiter, indeed, gaijinpot, career cross, daijob, etc
