  1. For day 2, trains departing the Ginza area, and especially the Ginza Line in my experience, will be absolutely packed at 6 pm on a weekday. Walking around Ueno Park in the dark doesn’t sound like much fun – go during the day.

  2. We were just in Hakone and found the bus system to be very congested. Many buses were full and had to bypass passengers who were waiting. Routes that were supposed to take 20 minutes, regularly took over an hour.

A good tip is to put the directions into Google as if you were driving, this will account for the extra time traffic will add to your route

  3. You’re staying in Asakusa, but there’s not much in/near Asakusa on your itinerary. Based on some of the stores you plan on going to, I would consider going to Sky Tree. It’s a quick walk or single stop away from Asakusa, has a Pokemon center and many other toy/gift shops, many different restaurants, and offers a pretty great view. Asakusa is pretty fun to wander around, so I would also plan at least a morning and a night to wander near the hotel.

  4. My humble opinion is that this itinerary is way to specific. Gotta go with the flow more and generalize things. Let the trip guide you a bit.

    “12 pm Sunday crepes”, etc.

  5. Hey! I was just wondering how much you might want to do at Tokyo Joypolis? I was just there last week and we really loved it!

However, most of the popular attractions (Storm G, Gekkion Live Coaster, etc) we found to be about a 30 min wait at the very least so if you want to do a lot of the experiences you might want to get there earlier than 3:30p as it closes at 8p. Or else go at the planned time and pick the 4 things you want to do most and anything after that will be a bonus :). Can definitely let you know our ride recs if you want!

  6. Since you’re staying in Asakusa, I highly recommend taking a walk to Senso-ji at night when its lights are up, absolutely beautiful!

  7. We were just in Asakusa, and I don’t really see you exploring that area in your itinerary even though you are staying there. There is a beautiful Shrine Sensoji (I think) and some fun shopping and places to eat nearby. Also, I don’t know how old your kids are, but Ueno park is pretty but you are going twice? If they are small, they might like the duck boats. Akihabara is fun, but depending on their ages, not necessarily age-appropriate in some places…

Also that last Sunday… I would really slow down. Harajuka and Shibuya are a lot of fun, and we actually enjoy that area with the kids a little more than Shinjuku. Also, if you get away from Takeshita street, there are some fun galleries with cool art that my kids really enjoyed.

Don Quixote brought my daughter to tears. It was so crowded, and they were having elevator/escalator issues, and they do sell so many things, including adult toys and material out in the open. Just FYI.

We also went to Hakone, and it was fun, but they closed the ropeways and boat etc. due to wind. So you may want to have some back up ideas.

Your kids will likely love Teamlab. It is really unique and a lot of fun. Have a great trip!
