I currently want to get rid of a set of dumbbells that was given to me by an old friend a few years back but upon checking with my city’s trash guide online, they don’t dispose of these types of stuff. (For context, it explicitly says 購入先に相談するか、専門業者に依頼)
However, since this was given to me by my friend I don’t know who the manufacturer for this is and can’t contact them. Any ideas on how to dispose of this? Do 2nd hand shops like off-house and book-off take stuff like this?

Where are you?
If you’re in the Tokyo area try the sayonara sale/mottainai Facebook groups. There’s always someone willing to take free stuff.
Are you sure you can’t put them out as 粗大ごみ? I guarantee you can throw out shit much heavier than the heaviest dumbbells you can possibly buy.
give them to the closest high school baseball or rugby club.
Dude, where I live is a proper suburban area but a 5 minute drive into the slightly Inaka area I see how Japanese people dispose of unwanted
Dishwashers
Sofas
Old TVs (the big box type)
Washing machines etc
Getting rid of stuff is super inconvenient in this country.
No wonder people just dump their unwanted stuff in the middle of the night 🌃 😅
How heavy are they? Do they have plates? We don’t live too far from one another, maybe I could take them off your hands.
I’ve done this twice. With some really light ones that I could carry, Mode Off took them. They gave me 100 yen per dumbbell. Second time with heavy ones I just registered as Sodai Gomi, no issues as they were within the limit of 30 cm or something.

Someone will take it off your hands for free, I’m sure.
Try and sell, if you can’t then try a different city with different trash rules.
Two words: HARD OFF
Donate it, or just bring them to some park or some charity physio therapy rehab clinic.
