Naturalized- Question Regarding the Acquisition of My Number Card

Greetings! Apologies if my question sounds dumb. It’s my first post here.

I just got naturalized, and submitted my kika todoke in the city hall. My name changed (totally different from my previous name). Currently I am waiting for my koseki tohon, and I got my juuminhyo with my new name that same day.

I also thought to register for a my number card that day (I didn’t have one), and I was told to have 2 supporting documents with my changed name on them the moment I get the card after a month or so. I only have currently my shakai hoken (which I will ask my company to have my name changed if possible), and they said juuminhyo and koseki tohon are not accepted as supporting documents. I thought of having my Japanese passport done first so that it will have my new name, but I was researching that it also requires a my number card for me to get a passport (or maybe I misread it?) 🙁 I don’t drive, so I also don’t have a menkyo.

Do you have any suggestions about the supporting documents that I can submit to get that my number card? Or steps I should take first?

Thank you in advance. Any help is appreciated.

  1. Um … seeing as how you’re now Japanese, and therefore theoretically able to both converse in Japanese with the ward office and understand the paperwork they will suggest you fill out, why aren’t you asking there?

(I’m also a naturalized Japanese citizen, albeit over a decade ago, and the nice fellow at the ward office very patiently answered all of my questions regarding bureaucracy)

  2. If getting a passport requires a My Number Card, then that is really new; hubby got his first passport in 2021 I think, but he doesn’t have MNC

The city hall staff should have told you what they accept for supporting documents so please do ask them again about it

  3. See https://www.kojinbango-card.go.jp/apprec/receive/#bringList . Specifically:

    > これらをお持ちでない方は、「氏名・生年月日」または「氏名・住所」が記載され、市区町村長が適当と認める2点
    (例)健康保険証、年金手帳、社員証、学生証、学校名が記載された各種書類、医療受給者証

So sounds like it depends on your ward but maybe health insurance and a certificate of employment or some such.
