Itinerary Check – 11 Days TYO-Kyoto/Nara/Osaka-Hiroshima-Hakone-Tyo

So I basically wanted to get some feed back on the feasibility of this itinerary or am i trying to squeeze too much in. This will be a Feburary trip with my mom (upper 60s), sister and me. I’m mostly worried about it being too exhausting for my mom.

I’ve been to japan several times before but this is their first time. I dont have too much time in Tokyo since I dont expect them to be that interested in the otaku culture or shopping. We’ll be coming from Taiwan after staying there for a bit so jetlag wont be an issue.

Day 1 – Tokyo (Ginza) – Arrive in the evening – Explore ginza/check into hotel

Day 2 – Tokyo (Asakusa + Ueno) – Imperial palace gardens, Asakusa area, Ueno Park area

Day 3 – Tokyo/Kyoto (Tsukiji + Travel day) – Checkout Hotel, explore Tsukiji, train to Kyoto, check into Ryokan

Day 4 – Kyoto (Arashiyama + Shijo Dori + Pontocho) – Checkout ryokan, explore Arashiyama area, check into hotel near Sanjo, explore shijio dori street and possible gion/pontocho alley

Day 5 – Kyoto – Kiyomizu Deru, Fushimi Inari, Other temples in the area of gion, pontocho alley

Day 6 – Kyoto (day trips) – Nara (day), osaka (evening – dotonbori), back to kyoto (if time more night time exploring?)

I think im pretty set up to here, already booked hotels/ryokan (all cancellable if necessary). Its the last few days im having trouble deciding.

Day 7 – Kyoto/Hiroshima/Miyajima – Check out, Nishiki market, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Check into hotel

Day 8 – Hiroshima/Hakone – Check out, last hiroshima exploration if necessary, Hakone (if early enough, some slight exploration of whats open)

Day 9 – Hakone/Tokyo – Hakone loop, open air museum, train to Tokyo

Day 10 – Tokyo – Shinjuku / Shibuya exploration

Day 11 – Fly out of Narita, explore area around Narita.

I guess my options would be to take out Hiroshima and spread out Osaka a bit or add a day to Hakone. I’ve been to Osaka and although I love it and the nightlife, I’m not sure if there is enough there that would be enjoyable for my mom.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
