Weird question about food product.

Firstly, do they sell vegetable shortening in Japan? I want to make something that requires it but I don’t remember seeing it…I only see butter and margerine.

Second question, I’m traveling back home for the holidays. Since it’s a vegetable fat and not an animal fat, would it be ok to bring through customs if I brought back a couple tubs? I know it’s rather specific but any info would be good.

Thanks

  1. Amazon sells Crisco.

and there should be no issues bringing it back, just keep the pack sealed.

  2. You can find a lot of vegetable shortening on Amazon. Also Rakuten. But if you bring it back from overseas make sure it’s sealed. You’ll have to declare it as well on the form they give you as well.

  3. Damn, I’ve been here so long now that I forgot this was even a thing. I used to love the olive oil-based spreads back home too.

  4. They have it in a few of my local grocery stores, but not all of them. It’s sold in small white and orange tubes of about 200g, in the baking section.

  5. My local supermarket has it in the cake section, in tubes. I got some a while back because I couldn’t find any suet to make a pie with.
