Saw a YouTube where someone studying Korean said she decided to start Japanese, and got to N3 in 3 months? Is that even possible? About 1000 kanji and all the grammar. So many comments on the video were “thanks, that’s so inspirational” but I thought it’s setting some fairly false expectations. Has anyone studied Japanese at university? How long does it take to get to N3. I must be a super slow learner as it’s been years for me on self study.

If you already know kanji definitely
Koreans and Chinese have advantages in learning japanese, very massive I would even say, as I remember, korean and japanese grammar almost the same and chinese has kanji, which Japanese also have, so you can see the pattern.
I actually believe that this is true to them, for example I believe grammar took me a long time to understand the most basic of it, when Koreans basically have the gifts from zero (almost)

edit: Nevermind, she is not korean right? Anyway 10 hours of study per day and you will get your n3 in 3 month
