Previous Post: [Kadokawa, one of Japan’s major publishing companies, has announced it is publishing a Japanese version of Abigail Shrier’s “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Crazy Seducing Our Daughters.” A Tweet promoting the book starts with “We’re against discrimination, but…”](https://www.reddit.com/r/japan/comments/18acgic/kadokawa_one_of_japans_major_publishing_companies/)
Aww, but those tweets were so principaled! /s
Guess they couldn’t handle the smoke.
I’ve read the first half of the book, it’s largely attempts to establish the disproportionate increases of gender dysphoria in teenage girls as a social meme among peer groups, in contrast to being traditionally developed independently and mostly by [AMAB/biologically born/depending on your perspective] boys. Although I’m very much more to the left of the political spectrum than the conservative author I thought this kind of viewpoint was an important consideration considering the large stakes involved, even if a little singleminded in its presentation.
That being said, I’m not sure how relevant it is to Japan though – the social side of thing has always appeared to me to be largely American and to a lesser extent European based. Generally cancelling the book may provide it with more marketing than it would otherwise have obtained.
—Instead of promoting nuanced stories regarding women’s everyday struggles with sexual harassment
Finally some good news.
Probably just realized they make a lot of money off lgbt series.
The company has been scummy for a long time. Back stabing people and screwing others over. For instance the Kimono Friends fiasco
Basically don’t piss off your customer bas to the extent they protest.
THANK THE HEAVENS
Hooray for book banning!
did not expect this from japan honestly, i’m very impressed
Disappointing to see this self-censorship. Silencing opposing viewpoints doesn’t make them go away.
it makes sense that they would cave to a large protest
Don’t tolerate intolerance baybeeeeeee
