I’m wondering if anyone knows the answer to this or has any advice? I would really appreciate it.
I graduated from my university in Japan on December 2, with a job lined up. The only problem is my new job gave me the documents I needed to change my status from student to working one day before graduation. Yes not ideal… but it was a last minute offer:(
I know that my student visa becomes invalid after graduation, but I graduated a semester early. My student visa ‘technically’ says it expires in April 2024, but i’m worried my school has already informed immigration that I graduated, and won’t let me apply for my working visa.
My question is, am I okay to go to immigration to apply for my work visa even though it’s been a week after my real graduation? I might be overthinking it, but I felt it was better to ask. Thanks!

Your visa expires 30 days after you graduate. So yes, you should go to immigration as soon as possible. Graduating early isn’t a problem.
You’re supposed to notify immigration that you’ve graduated from the school within 14 days of graduating. You can very easily do that online here https://www.ens-immi.moj.go.jp/NA01/NAA01S/NAA01STransfer
As long as you do that you’ll be fine.
