Blood test for vitamin and minerals

I am considering to start taking supplements for common deficiencies such as Vitamin D, C, zinc etc but I want to do it properly by first confirming what I actually need and the dosage.

Does anyone know where the blood tests can be done? I asked 2 clinics and they did not offer these tests, I searched online and found a clinic that can do it but the price is quite high (above 10万). I feel like this should be easy to find at a reasonable price? It makes me wonder whether nobody supplement here, or people just do it “blindly”.

  1. You could do a regular blood test and ask your doctor what supplements they recommend when you review the results.

  2. Since you’re not actually ill, it will fall under 自由診療 which is why it’s expensive – clinics are free to charge what they like.

Shop around a bit – after five minutes of searching I found this place: https://kyb-clinic.jp/tests/k01/ which does 60+ checks for ¥11000 (not a recommendation, just a suggestion).

Try searching for 血液検査 栄養素 plus your location.

  3. Get some sun. Boom! Your amazing body will make Vitamin D and it will boost your mood at the same time.

  4. Blood tests won’t tell you the whole story. Some vitamins are fat soluble, other minerals are absorbed by the musculoskeletal system. You really should talk to a nutritionist or doctor, as opposed to getting a blood test done yourself and trying to interpret the results.

In general, a healthy person who is eating properly doesn’t need supplements. Pregnant women would benefit from folic acid, older people often need calcium boosts, but even in those situations you are absolutely better going to a doctor and discussing your needs with them. If there’s a concern, they will order blood tests done. Of course, if there’s anything more serious in your medical history, you absolutely need a doctor’s advice.
