Choice to make

Hi all,

Very excited for my trip to Japan in February!

I’ve got a choice to make that I’d appreciate some advice for:

On Day 9, I’m travelling from Shinjuku to Fujigoko (Fujiku/Lake Kawaguchiko Area), staying there overnight into Day 10

Now on Day 11, I’ll be travelling to Nagoya, dropping off luggage at the accommodation, then to Ise Shima and back to Nagoya.

My initial idea was to travel back to Tokyo on Day 10, stay there overnight so that I can get up early and go straight to Nagoya in the morning of Day 11

However now I’m thinking, would it be worth it to stay a second night in Fujigoko, and extend my travels on Day 11? (Fujigoko to Tokyo to Nagoya, Ise Shima, Nagoya)

I’m staying overnight in Nagoya on Day 11, but does this sound like too much travelling in a day?

It takes about 2 hours to get back into Tokyo from Fuji, then 1.75 hours to Nagoya, and probably another 1.75 to Ise Shima. After a couple hours in Ise Shima, it’ll be another 1.75 hours or so back to Nagoya. So 7 hours and 15 minutes travel in a day (roughly).

Looking at the scenery in Fujigoko I’m not sure I’d want to leave after 1 night, but is that enough time to see the main sights anyway?

Appreciate any of your thoughts!

  1. It depends on what you want to do at ise shima. If there places you want to visit that have operating hours I would do a night in Tokyo so that you don’t risk rushing before places close for the day. You can always try to maximize your 2nd day at fujigoko and see what time the latest buses and trains back to Tokyo are.

  2. I wouldn’t do Fujikawaguchiko-Nagoya-Ise-Shima-Nagoya in one day. You will need to travel 5h in the morning, (you can cut 45 minutes off the time you listed by going from Fujikawaguchiko-Nagoya via Mishima instead of Tokyo), plus get from your AM hotel to the bus terminal, plus check into the hotel in Nagoya, plus wait for trains… by the time you get to Ise you might have 2 hours there tops.

Split it up and travel Fujikawaguchiko-Nagoya in one evening and Nagoya-Ise in the next morning. Spending one day only or two days + one night in Fuji Five Lakes would both be fine, depending on how fast you travel and which stuff there interests you.

  3. I agree with Fuji>Tokyo>Nagoya>Iseshima>Nagoya in a single day is too much. I have an upcoming trip where we are going from Fuji>Tokyo>Osaka in one day and even I am not looking forward to the additional transfer in a single day.

Break that travel up by ending your day in Nagoya and doing things in the city, and do Iseshima the next day when you only need to worry about the one train there and back.
