Seller protection on メルカリ

I‘m about to sell a collection of items for several hundred thousand yens.
I have added as many pictures as possible and included a detailed breakdown and description of the set.
I also plan to ask the potential buyer whether he needs more pics or information.

Is there anything else I could do to prevent buyer fraud?
For example, if the buyer asks for a refund for no reason, would I be forced to pay return fees (~8,000 yens)?

  1. There’s none, if the buyer decides to ask for a refund they are required to send your stuff back and you’ll have to pay the delivery fees, already happened to me once. Mercari usually sides with the buyer

  2. Insure the package for the full value of what you sell it for, create video and photo evidence of the packaging and sealing of the items, send it using one of the various built-in mercari shipping options so all of the tracking details/shipping destination/recipient information are recorded within the Mercari system. Keep all contact/messaging within the Mercari message system so it can be checked by their moderators if any claims get opened up.

You’ll be fine if you follow the appropriate steps.

  3. Be aware of some scams that happens on メルカリ。There are buyers who claim that something is wrong with the item and will want to send back the item, then you’ll realise that they sent a fake version of the item. It’s important to write in your description that the buyer has to be aware that it is a second hand item and there may be some faults etc.

  4. I’ve bought and sold some very expensive things on Mercari and it’s been fine so far, knock on wood. Someone with 78 reviews and ‘only’ 4 is probably legit, but do your due diligence and protect yourself as best you can.
