  1. I think it’s fair enough that a country can deny dual citizenship, even though I don’t like it. But if one of your main problems is a shrinking population and you certainly wish to let as few non-citizens stay and work in your country as possible, shouldn’t you just be glad that there’s a fair chance those dual nationals will work in Japan at some point in their life? How hasn’t there been more political debate about this yet? I really expected this to become big when the pro tennis player had to make the choice.

  2. since so far nobody could explain to me why allowing dual nationality is a benefit to society, I will count this as a good thing. there’s a lot of issues coming from dual nationality, mostly about people voting in countries that they don’t even reside in for most of their lives. for nearly all other purposes, having one nationality and a valid passport seems perfectly sufficient. especially considering that even if one gave up their citizenship at one point, they could always try to acquire it at a later date. dual nationality seems like one of these things that’s good for the few individuals that are eligible for it, while being a net negative for the rest of the country.

  3. Time for everyone to continue having dual citizenship legally until they die because of loopholes
